Sankeys Corner Arts Miner Project.

Sankeys Corner Arts Miner Project, or SCAMP, is an attempt to raise enough money to have made a bronze statue of a full-sized miner and pit-pony to be erected in the Town Centre. As Sankeys Corner is generally accepted to be Burntwood`s town centre, it is proposed to place the statue somewhere prominent in that vicinity. The presently paved area adjacent to Barclays Bank is the most likely place as the Library frontage is already cluttered enough. In the likely event that the road between the traffic lights and Water Street may one day be pedestrianised, the statue could easily be moved into the present road area and complete with a small flower border and benches, it would make a striking focal point for the shopping area.

With about two thirds of the cost already in the bank, the public is urged to support SCAMP with ideas or donations to realise the fulfilment of the project as soon as possible.

The area is steeped in mining history , and whether you or your ancestors worked at the pits, or you [or you parents] ended up here from other far-flung places, THIS is your Town, and you should be proud to live here and share that heritage.
